Lazaro Gonzalez is a Miami-based interdisciplinary artist of Cuban origin whose work examines societal systems and labor. He uses acidic humor and irony alongside raw materials and lived and invented narratives to expose how power and bureaucracy shape the everyday and the violence that lives in it.

Artist Statement

If the human belongs neither in nature nor with the machine, where does it belong? My work stages that displacement through mechanisms that perform, fail, and persist. Human participation becomes both care and contamination: a stubborn, nostalgic intervention that places the human inside a machine that no longer needs it. I treat this as mythic, somewhere between Prometheus and the Fall of Man, where the impulse to “belong” is also what defines, damages, and displaces us.
